ICON V2 Model Year 2022 is the new, versatile and high-performance version of ICON, the high-performance VTOL drone developed by PRO S3 srl of Turin, Italy. ICON MY2022 is the product born for multisensor aeromap operations. The aircraft, in fixed-wing VTOL configuration, takes off and lands vertically, transforming into an aircraft for efficient and optimized large-scale aeromapping operations .

We have equipped ICON MY2022 with a sensor system (always configurable for customer needs) that surprises:

  • RGB (visible light) aero-photogrammetric camera with 61 Mpx full frame sensor
  • Two synchronized multispectral cameras with a total of 10 bands offering full compatibility with Landsat and Sentinel satellite data . Detailed data are available on the manufacturer’s website https://micasense.com/dual-camera-system/

There is no need for the troublesome replacement of sensors from one flight to the next, harbingers of damage to the sensors themselves and pollution of the optics with dust and debris: the sensors of ICON MY2022, automatically operated by the mission control system based on flight planning, are simultaneously on board in the cargo bay located in the lower part of the fuselage. The flight duration of ICON MY2022 is more than 2 hours and enables aero-photogrammetric performance unthinkable for any other multirotor drone:

  • Aerophotogrammetric coverage with 50/50 overlap equal to 6.5 square kilometers(BVLOS permit required)
  • Ground resolution of RGB images: 1.2 cm/px
  • Ground resolution of multispectral images: 8 cm/px

ICON MY2022 provides two flight modes. Switching from one to the other is done automatically according to the schedule, or on pilot command by selecting the desired mode:

  • Fixed-point flight in copter mode: the four sustaining rotors that ensure stationary fixed-point flight are active.
  • Translated flight in plane mode: the thrust motor is active, providing an energy-efficient flight speed of about 85 km/h.

Preparing ICON MY2022 for flight is quick and easy. All electrical connections are designed by PRO S3 Ltd. in such a way that no mistakes are allowed. The whole operation takes one person a maximum of 10 minutes. Once assembly is complete, simply insert the batteries (two per flight, needed for all-electric propulsion) and you can take off. With the standard equipment of two battery kits, multiple flights can be made without interruption. The range of the control and telemetry signal is more than 10 km, which is excellent for covering all VLOS and BVLOS operations required by regulations today. ICON MY2022 selectively handles all emergencies that may occur during flight, including battery depletion and accidental loss of control signal. In case you want to abort the flight, you can always press in “RTL – Return to Launch” button to command ICON MY2022 to reverse course and immediately return to the starting point by making a vertical landing.
