Until two decades ago, virtual and augmented reality was almost comparable to science fiction, while until a few years ago it was a marginal part of technology investment, even by hi-tech companies. The situation has evolved very rapidly (like everything connected with technology, after all), investment has grown significantly and will continue to do so in the coming years. The PwC network, in its recent report significantly titled Seeing is believing estimated that global business from augmented and virtual reality technologies will reach $1.5 trillion by 2030. A figure supported by market research firm IDC Italy, which estimates $161 billion in global AR and VR spending in 2023, with over 78 percent growth rate.

Why are virtual and augmented reality experiencing such a boom?

Because they are now fundamental tools of so-called Industry 4.0 in very different sectors, but all equally benefited by the use of oculus and VR visors. For example, the use of virtual reality significantly increases the effectiveness of training, both compared to online training and to more traditional, classroom-based training. Industrial design also benefits from the use of oculus and visors: if a modern workstation with numerous monitors helps the designer juggle spreadsheets and work environments more easily, an oculus “immerses” him or her in the work itself, and, with hands taking the place of mouse and/or touchpad and keyboard, the speed and quality of work increases as familiarity with these technologies increases. One of the industries that is benefiting most from these advantages is certainly theautomotive industry. Audi and BMW, to name two, have managed to implement some stages of their industrial production with the help of augmented reality: not only in prototyping and design, but also in logistics. Jaguar and Tesla (true “forerunners” in the industry), on the other hand, have introduced VR in their showrooms, immersing potential customers in a world very different from classic configurators. Another sector close to automotive that is benefiting so much from the introduction of virtual and augmented reality is definitely aerospace. This is a service that we at PRO S3 also offer, being able to simulate complex operations such as aircraft maintenance or pilot training, who become acclimatized in the cockpit even before they actually set foot in it. We are also able to simulate operations such as the assembly of complex products composed of thousands of small or microscopic components. The evolution of these technologies remains very rapid, but we can be the right partner if your industry wants to enter the world of virtual reality: contact us for more information and to project your business into the future!
