Turin – Oct. 19, 2016: The Exomars mission reaches its climax today with the descent to Mars of the Schiaparelli module. Italian technology is protagonist in this mission with the decisive contribution of Italian companies coninvolved in the realization of the modules and in the control of the mission including Pro S3 Unmanned Technologies. Octane and Venture Surveyor are the “Made in Torino” drones used by Thales Alenia Space for the refinement of automatic visual guidance techniques. This event, which began with the launch of Exomars on March 14, 2016, is only the first in a series of missions that will see the use of “visual based” guidance techniques based only on the automatic recognition of the most suitable areas for contact with the Martian soil. Pro S3 has contributed to this research activity as a partner with Thales Alenia Space on the Steps 2 project, thanks to which it has been possible to refine such guidance techniques through the use of controlled descent drones.
