ICON brings together in one drone two souls, the versatile one of the multirotor with the performance one of the fixed-wing aircraft. Indeed, the laws of aerodynamics tell us that an aircraft, because of its ability to sustain itself with fixed wings, has a much higher aerodynamic efficiency than other aircraft that sustain themselves with rotary wings. This difference translates into less energy the fixed-wing aircraft needs to keep itself in the air. In other words with the same “energy fill” the aircraft is able to fly for longer than a helicopter can although the latter is much more versatile due to the ability to fly fixed point and land and take off vertically.
