The earliest evidence of this technique is almost contemporary with the birth of photography: in fact, it was in the <strong>1840s<\/strong> when <strong>cameras<\/strong> were used <strong>aboard hot air balloons<\/strong> to capture images of the land from above. In the early twentieth century, around <strong>1910<\/strong>, German <strong>pharmacist<\/strong> <strong>Julius Neubronner<\/strong>, who used carrier <strong>pigeons<\/strong> to &#8220;ship&#8221; his medicines from one city to another, strapped <strong>cameras<\/strong> of reduced weight and size (with programmed self-timers) to his birds to discover their path. This was the prelude to the<strong>wartime use of <\/strong>aerophotogrammetry, which began to spread in World War I and was a widely used tool during World War II. <strong>German V2 missiles <\/strong>were used, beginning in <strong>1943<\/strong>, as a platform and marked the transition of aerophotogrammetry from the earthly skies to space. A transition that was made official during the 1950s: it was <strong>1957<\/strong> when the <strong>Sputnik<\/strong> spacecraft made it possible to mount a <strong>camera on a craft traveling in Earth orbit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After being used in warfare, remote sensing became increasingly popular in other areas as well, especially in <strong>meteorology<\/strong>.Sensors acquiring black-and-white images of the <strong>Earth<\/strong> were mounted on special satellites beginning in 1960. The breakthrough came in <strong>1972<\/strong>, when the first remote sensing satellite, the <strong>Landsat<\/strong>, was inaugurated. Between the <strong>1970s and Octana increasingly technological sensors<\/strong> (CZCS, HCMM, AVHRR) were mounted aboard satellites and platforms, such as Skylab. In <strong>1999<\/strong>, almost at the beginning of the new millennium, <strong>Ikonos, the first commercial high-resolution satellite,<\/strong> was launched instead. The world of remote sensing has continued to evolve ever more rapidly in recent years, with one important development. Among platforms, <strong>drones<\/strong>, which are<strong>lightweight, more maneuverable, and significantly cheaper<\/strong>, have become increasingly popular, and we at <strong>PRO S3<\/strong> can provide a range of remotely piloted aerial systems that combine practicality with very high performance.
